VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN PERFORMANCE PRACTICE - The Department of Theater and Dance at COLBY COLLEGE invites applications for a three year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Performance for Academic Years 21/22-23/24. We seek a candidate who focuses on socially--engaged performance (e.g. art in the public realm, community-based work, social praxis, relational aesthetics, art/activism, histories of place, performance and architecture, site-situated work) and who works at the intersections of theater, dance, performance studies, and/or other live arts.

Qualifications

The Colby College Department of Theater and Dance holds as central values: justice, collaboration, leadership and community reciprocity, and applicants should demonstrate how their scholarship, research, and practice align with those values. Candidates must hold a terminal degree and have a sincere interest in working in a liberal arts setting.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with performers from diverse backgrounds and the ability to pursue community partnerships and lead collaborations. Responsibilities include participation in departmental governance and planning and teaching four classes each academic year, which will include directing, devising, and/or choreographing performances that engage members of the community, teaching courses in socially-engaged practice, and courses in other area that align with the candidate's expertise. We are particularly interested in artists who can teach courses that bridge disciplines and braid together theory and practice and who situate their teaching, creative practice, and scholarly work in conversation with broader interdisciplinary fields such as performance studies, critical race and ethnic studies, disability studies, gender and sexuality studies, transnational, and decolonial studies.
