Tenure-Track Experimental Digital Performance, Assistant or Associate Professor

The Performing Arts Department at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty appointment in Experimental Digital Performance at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin in the fall semester of 2021. Strong candidates will conduct critical research on, and maintain a creative practice in, experimental performance-based art that utilizes emergent digital or computational tools. They will offer courses in Contemporary Performance, Digital Performance Media, and topics including studio-based creative work to introduce students to the creative possibilities of new digital technology. They will be a dynamic researcher and teacher who engages critically and creatively with aspects of digital performance-based art which may include, but are not limited to, the following:

- XR (VR, AR, MR, etc.) scenography and interactive environments

- Computational bias and racial or ethnic identity

- Interactive or playable performance

- Computational choreography and/or motion capture and simulation

- Algorithmic writing or play scripting

A PhD or an MFA in Theatre and Performance Studies or a closely related field such as Dance, Drama, or Interactive Media is required at the time of appointment. Candidates without a PhD who have an exceptional record of artistic achievement will be considered.
