Full Time Position- Director of Book History and Digital Initiatives

American Antiquarian Society

The American Antiquarian Society (AAS) a national research library and learned society of American history, life, and culture from settlement through 1876 is looking for a director of book history and digital initiatives to manage the Society’s Program in the History of the Book in American Culture (PHBAC) program and play a leading role in creating and administering digital projects. The Director of Book History and Digital Initiatives acts as an ambassador for AAS to the larger academic community through conferences, programs and publication. This position works closely with other staff to coordinate efforts to create and maintain digital access to collections.

This position will play a leadership role in crafting a strategic plan for the Society’s PHBAC program and will oversee the development and execution of initiatives under that program including the weeklong summer seminar program and the annual Wiggins Lecture series as well as developing new workshops and programs in the Society’s new interactive long-distance Learning Lab.

The position will also play a critical role in the Society’s work with digital collaborations such as the Networked Early American Resources (NEAR), the Advanced Research Consortium (ARC), and the Just Teach One and Just Teach One African American Resources initiatives.

This position is in the programs division and reports to the Vice President for Programs and Outreach. It is a full time, exempt position. Candidates should possess a PhD in history, American Studies or related fields and possess basic literacy with digital tools and knowledge of the trends in book history, digital humanities and digital libraries.
