Job Summary

The Department of Dance at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences. Initial appointment to this position will be for a term of four years, beginning fall 2020, and will carry the rank of Assistant Professor.

Dance at Oberlin is characterized by its commitment to experimentation and creation of original work, with an awareness that we are moving in a complex world. Faculty and students show their work throughout the year in events ranging from fully produced proscenium concerts, to adjudicated concerts presented in the dance- specific Main Space, to student-run concerts that embrace a wide variety of student work. Both student and faculty choreographers often collaborate with musicians and composers from Oberlin’s Conservatory of Music, as well as with media and installation artists from the Art Department

Responsibilities

This position is in the curricular area of Contemporary Dance and Engaged Creative

Practice. The incumbent will teach a variety of courses (4.5 per year), including those that establish a rigorous movement practice for advanced students, introductory classes, and courses in movement composition with an awareness of the social implications of choreographic work.

The incumbent will also be expected to engage in sustained scholarly research and/or other creative work appropriate to the position and participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including academic advising and service on committees.

Compensation

Within the range established for this position, salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a competitive benefits package.
