Position Description 

The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of New Mexico has a tenure track opening for Assistant Professor: Dance Studies/Contemporary Dance. The Dance Program at the University of New Mexico offers the following degrees: BA in Dance with designated concentrations in Contemporary and Flamenco; MA in Theatre and Dance with a concentration in Dance History and Criticism; MFA in Dance; BA in Interdisciplinary Arts, in collaboration with other departments. The University of New Mexico is a Hispanic-enrolling institution in a minority/majority state. The Dance Program and University are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to diversity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A) PhD complete or pending in dance studies, performance studies, or related field; B) Two years experience teaching lecture and/or studio classes at the university level in two of the following: modern/contemporary dance technique; dance/performance studies; dance history; writing about dance; dance appreciation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS; A) Three years experience teaching at the university level in two or more of the following: dance/performance studies; western dance history from a multicultural perspective; contemporary/modern dance technique; transnational dance form(s); African diasporic dance form(s); dance appreciation; dance pedagogy; writing about dance; conditioning for dancers; dance kinesiology; choreography; improvisation; dance and technology; B) Evidence of research in area(s) of expertise with proof of peer-reviewed publication and/or professional performance; C) Clear research agenda; D) Academic administrative experience; E) A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities; F) Grant writing experience
