Assistant Lecturer: Dance Creation, Performance and Artistic Directorship

The Department of Dance, York University invites applications for an Alternate Stream (teaching-focused) tenure-track position in Dance Creation, Performance and Artistic Directorship at the rank of Assistant Lecturer, to commence July 1, 2019. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and to provide leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation and to support aspects of curriculum delivery and development. The candidate will have a Ph.D. in Dance or Ph.D. equivalent (minimum MFA) with a substantial record of professional experience in the specific areas of dance creation, performance and Artistic Direction and related or complementary fields. We would welcome an experienced contemporary dance artist with expertise in teaching in a post secondary environment both in the studio as well as the classroom with demonstrated ability in choreography, performance and production in various theatrical settings and who has an understanding of site specific and digitally enhanced theatre. This successful candidate would possess the skills and experience to have garnered success in artistic direction (and all that the role entails) at the professional level. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or clear potential for excellence in teaching university-level courses, a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success and the capacity to incorporate current theoretical and practiced-based initiatives to train dance-artists and to apply these skills to teaching creativity, education, the expressive body and the production of dance events for professionals in community: as well as integrating these skills as part of a program design. A record of pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning is preferred as is experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment. The successful candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service contributions or potential to contribute to service in administrative and committee work. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
