Dance Studies Association (DSA) is seeking to fill two part-time Administrative Fellowship positions to join the Executive Director as DSA’s administrative management team. Working independently but alongside the Executive Director, fellows can apply as either a Communications or a Membership Fellow. Fellows should possess a strong knowledge of the discipline in addition to basic skills in administration, organization, and communication.

These positions are a part of DSA’s ongoing rebuilding for equity, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring the organizational infrastructure itself is reckoning with the historical relationship between white supremacy, US nonprofit structure, and capitalism more broadly. Fellows will work alongside the Executive Director and DSA Board to support the rapid growth of DSA, amidst the need to examine how growth is sustained and leveraged, and for whom. Individuals interested in doing/undoing arts administration, academic administration, or nonprofit administration, more broadly, will find this opportunity a particularly good fit. DSA welcomes applications from graduate students, independent scholars/artists, and contingent faculty.

Dance Studies Association is a constituent member of the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS). With a membership of more than 900 individuals, DSA is an international organization of dance scholars, educators, and artists that aims to strengthen the visibility of dance as embodied practice, creative endeavor and intellectual discipline. Formed in 2017 as the merged entity of the Congress on Research in Dance (CORD) and the Society of Dance History Scholars (SDHS), DSA is both grounded in and extends the work of those two organizations. Bringing the field of dance studies into the twenty-first century, DSA showcases the tremendous growth of research and publication over the past fifty years. Annual conferences draw together hundreds of scholars and artists to share research, celebrate discipline shaping scholarship, and discuss pressing issues in a global and diverse field DSA along with its members advances the field of dance studies through research, publication, performance, social justice initiatives and outreach to audiences across the arts, humanities, and social sciences.


Administrative Fellow, Membership

January 1, 2022-December 31, 2022

Qualifications: 1-3 years of experience in nonprofit administration; preference given to candidates with an academic background in dance studies; proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workplace, Zoom; digital native interested in learning CRM membership management software.

Must be available for onsite conference attendance, Vancouver October 2022. Fully funded travel and lodging. Otherwise, fully remote position.

  • Hours: average 5 hours/week (48 weeks/year)
  • Honorarium: $3750 total (paid in two installments, or monthly) + annual membership + travel, lodging, and $50/day per diem for conference attendance
  • Term: one-year contract with the possibility of renewal

Specific Duties:

  • Responding to membership and member inquiries
  • Assistance/support for member benefits (access to journals, book shipping, awards nominations, conference registration and submission, etc. )
  • Membership reporting and enrollment initiatives (after training in MembersClicks software), including strategic brainstorming and planning
  • Various conference support (including on site)

Administrative Fellow, Communications

January 1, 2022-December 31, 2022

Qualifications: 1-3 years of experience in nonprofit administration; preference given to candidates with an academic background in dance studies; proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workplace, Zoom; basic knowledge of Photoshop and/or Canva; experience with social media and email marketing.

Must be available for onsite conference attendance, Vancouver October 2022. Fully funded travel and lodging. Otherwise, fully remote position.

  • Hours: average 5 hours/week (48 weeks/year)
  • Honorarium: $3750 total (paid in two installments, or monthly) + annual membership + travel, lodging, and $50/day per diem for conference attendance
  • Term: one-year contract with the possibility of renewal

Specific Duties:

  • Website Maintenance: Job postings, new sections, call for papers, community calendar
  • Support the marketing calendar with social media and e-marketing content
  • General website maintenance including board updates and award updates
  • Various conference support (including on site)
