6th International Conference on Movement and Computing

The DSA is pleased to announce its cooperative support with the 6th International Conference on Movement and Computing" (MOCO), to be held October 10-12th 2019 at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. We encourage DSA members, especially those working or interested in the fields of dance and technology, to learn about and attend this conference. The 2019 conference is chaired by former SDHS board member Grisha Coleman, and features a call for performance, installation, and demo works in addition to the single-track paper presentation and proceedings to be published in the ACMMM Digital Library. As well, MOCO ’19 will support a special doctoral consortium which will be open to MFA students.

MOCO especially invites DSA graduate students to apply to the doctoral consortium, where grad student presenters will receive feedback from a wide variety of members of the extended ASU/MOCO community This is an excellent place to present or propose an MFA thesis work, or to summarize and reflect on a series of works. MOCO hosts experts from many different disciplines, which in turn produces a healthy range of topics, from movement in machine learning or motion analysis applications, to practice-based research theory from dance, somatics, and technology, to scientific engineering applications. Potential applicants should keep in mind MOCO considers computation broadly; and may relate to notational, archival projects, performance/installation works with responsive media systems, or studies relating to dance which features for example media studies, annotation, or computational analysis.

As part of this cooperation, and with DSA support, MOCO will waive registration fees for three Graduate Student DSA member applicants; those interested in applying for this competitive support will be provided an opportunity to indicate this on their application.”
